Disability Living Allowance Appeal Success 2022

The Disability Living Allowance Unit agreed that Surinder, who suffered from severe

autism should get benefit of £89.60 because she could not look after herself but not

the extra £62.55 which is paid to children with serious mobility problems.

The Claimants Union appealed: pointing out that poor Surinder was in the habit of

stopping dead and throwing herself to the ground in a tantrum which sure was a

mobility problem!

The appeal came up in Fenruary 2022: the judge agreed with us

and Surinder’s Mum got the extra £62.55.

The back pay came to over £1,000 because she had to wait weeks for the appeal to be heard but she will need it to pay for a lot of cab fares so that Surinder can start to live something like a normal life, taking trips out shopping with her Mum and going with her to visit friends.
