Norma’s husband walked out on her claiming that it was too stressful for him to help
her to look after their severely disabled son. He took with him the son’s Disability
Living Allowance (DLA) of £83.70 per week which was paid into his bank account.
Norma tried telling the Jobcentre about this but nobody listened.
We wrote a letter to the DLA unit explaining that the disabled son was living with Norma not the husband and they could check with his school.
They paid the money – and back pay -into Norma’s account. It came to over £800.
Norma immediately bought new clothes and bed sheets for her son and put money by for a new washing machine: his disability means that Norma is always having to do extra washing.
